The Garneau Chair
The Garneau Chair is a collaborative project exploring the combination of old and new. Classical and modern influences are exemplified in both styling and construction techniques. Capitalizing on the strength of carbon fibre, the joints, seat and backrest employ this modern material—reducing weight and simplifying the chair’s form. The remaining sections are composed of hard maple, allowing for soft curves and giving a traditional look to the supporting elements of the chair. The juxtaposition of the two elements create a modern and lightweight interpretation of a classical writing chair.

University of Alberta Exhibit Design at IDS West 2012.

For the University of Alberta’s exhibition at IDS West 2012 in Vancouver, I was responsible for organizing the event. This included curating the pieces and managing the set up as well as collaborating on the exhibit design and visual identity.

As this was the first time our school had displayed at IDS West we focused the theme of the exhibition on our foundations - our underlying principles. We simplified the set into a series of cubes which highlighted every piece within our display equally. These forms were made of inexpensive reclaimed dimensional lumber wrapped tightly in shrink wrap. These forms were then illuminated with LED’s.

Minimal Razor

This minimal design attempted to recreate the disposable razor with less plastic and an aesthetically appealing design. The razor was modeled, 3d printed, tested for ergonomics and revised.
